Paint Smudges and Leftover Cloth

A poem for my cousin Abby

Hard at work again,

She may have spent the hours sewing

And the other days painting

Her world in watercolors

And the trees on the leaves still seem to fall.

Once the stars shine

And the moon beckons a night’s rest,

A day well spent,

Another piece of leftover cloth

Sewn into the sky.
